NORRISTOWN - This CLE will provide a detailed introduction to the process for filing a Petition for Change of Name in Montgomery County. It will present both a general overview of the adult name change process as well as thorough guidance for advising clients seeking legal name changes. Common concerns that attend filing a name change petition will also be covered in detail, including navigating the judgment search and publication requirements, and seeking to seal the record and waive publication to protect the privacy of clients who may be subjected to violence or harassment. The session will also consider some best practices for advising transgender and genderqueer clients in obtaining a legal name change. This session will provide information and materials tailored for petitioning in Montgomery County.
