Evictions in PA before, during and after COVID-19: A look at eviction rates within LASP’s 4-county service area over the past 5 years

by Lucas Miller, LASP Communications Intern & Arcadia University senior

(Oct. 31, 2024)

In the past decade, LASP's four-county service area has seen incredibly high eviction rates.

Due to state- and CDC-authorized moratoria in 2020 and 2021 during the COVID-19 pandemic, eviction numbers decreased significantly. But what has happened since then?

Eviction is back up to where it was before the pandemic, and in some cases is even higher than previous years. Swipe through the graphics to see just how high rates were in 2019 before the pandemic, how they dropped during the pandemic, and then spike back up again in the most recent 2023 report.

All data used was sourced from the Housing Alliance of Pennsylvania’s November 2023 interactive report on eviction in recent years, "AFTER THE PAUSE: The rise of eviction filings post-pandemic." Check their website for more information on eviction, specific numbers, and what can be done to help.
