About the CLE: "Maximizing the Nonprofit Board Member Experience"

(1 Credit, Substantive)

At the core of successful nonprofits is a high-performing board of directors. These boards serve the organization's mission and act as stewards of its resources and architects of its strategic direction. Effective boards provide crucial oversight, guidance, and support to advance the organization's mission, vision, values, and strategic goals. Key to this success is clarity around the roles and responsibilities of board members, and an understanding of the expectations of board service.

Presenter Elizabeth Vibber, M.S., Co-Director of the Catalyst Center for Nonprofit Management, has 30+ years’ experience providing strategic consultation to both the public and private sectors. Her projects have included the development of business and strategic plans, governance consulting, mergers and collaborations, needs assessments, survey design, succession planning and executive searches. During this interactive workshop, we will discuss best practices from both the organizational and individual perspectives.

Reception & awards

Cocktails and networking will follow the CLE, along with the presentation of the Keystone Pro Bono Awards and the President's Volunteer Service Awards.

Virtual CLE for attorneys: Disaster Legal Help – FEMA Individual Assistance & Helping Applicants with Denials

Join North Penn Legal Services for a disaster legal aid CLE Wednesday, Oct, 30, 2024 from 11 a.m.-12 p.m. Learn about the FEMA appeals process to help Pennsylvania survivors of Tropical Storm Debby in August 2024 or future events that receive a federal, “Presidential” disaster declaration.

The CLE, “Disaster Legal Help – FEMA Individual Assistance & Helping Applicants with Denials,” is free for civil legal advocates and pro bono attorneys.

The recent federal disaster declaration for Tropical Storm Debby in four counties (Lycoming, Potter, Tioga, and Union) in Pennsylvania allows survivors with critical needs and losses to apply to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for “Individual Assistance,” which funds home repairs, property losses, and other allowable requests. Some requests are denied in part or in full, and applicants have a right to appeal these decisions. Get training on the nature of appeals, documentation needed, and the appeals process.

FEMA rules were updated in March 2024 to improve the coverage available, so if you’ve had this training before, you may want an update this year to help survivors of Tropical Storm Debby and be prepared to help those recovering from local and regional disasters.

Presenters:

  • Shrushti Kothari, Esq. is a Disaster Grants Program Counsel in the Office of Program Performance at Legal Services Corporation (LSC). She previously served as Project Manager of National Disaster Content and Resources and as a Staff Attorney in the Disaster Relief Unit at Lone Star Legal Aid in Houston, Texas. Expungement Clinic in Brookhaven

Expungement Clinic in Brookhaven

  • Brookhaven Municipal Center (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

BROOKHAVEN – State Rep. Leanne Krueger will host a free Clean Slate Expungement Clinic with Legal Aid of Southeastern PA (LASP) Thursday, Sept. 26, 2024 beginning at 6 p.m. at Brookhaven Municipal Center, 2 Cambridge Road, Brookhaven.

Attorneys will provide information and discuss options that may be available for clearing a person’s criminal record. If expungement is not an option, additional resources will be available.

Registration for the free clinic is required. Interested residents can ask a question or sign up for appointments, which start at 6 p.m., by calling Rep. Krueger’s office at 610-534-6880 or emailing RepKrueger@pahouse.net.

People seeking expungement can bring case information, including a copy of court records and orders, and must not currently be in violation or on probation/parole.

Rep. Krueger said Pennsylvania became the first state in the nation to pass a bipartisan clean slate law in 2018. She said lawmakers have since worked together to improve it, most recently passing Clean Slate 3.0, which took effect in February.

“Clean slate laws recognize that people make mistakes, but those mistakes should not prevent them from securing housing, education or employment when they’ve turned their lives around,” Rep. Krueger said. “I want to make sure that people know there are new options to seal minor offenses that might be keeping them from moving forward with their lives. At this clinic, residents can talk with experts and receive important information about Pennsylvania’s clean slate laws, and maybe get the fresh start they need.”

Rep. Krueger and her staff will be at the clinic to provide information on state-related programs and services.
