Free Help for Consumers to Avoid Foreclosure and Predatory Lending

Don’t Borrow Trouble® is a national anti-predatory lending and foreclosure avoidance campaign that teaches consumers to protect their homes and finances.

In Southeastern Pennsylvania, the Don’t Borrow Trouble Suburban Philadelphia Campaign is a partnership of housing, legal, consumer, credit counseling and government programs coordinated by Legal Aid of Southeastern Pennsylvania to help homeowners avoid mortgage pitfalls that can lead to foreclosure. With the proliferation of so many financial products–from purchase and refinance loans to second liens and home equity loans–it’s no wonder consumers find it challenging to make the right choices. Sometimes, mortgage offers that seem too good to be true contain hidden fees and unfair terms that can ultimately cause borrowers to lose their homes.

By calling the Don’t Borrow Trouble Suburban Philadelphia Helpline at 888-275-8843, consumers in Bucks, Chester, Delaware and Montgomery counties have access to a free reliable source of information and support from a respected non-profit organization. Helpline staff can provide referrals to housing and credit counselors who can offer options to homeowners having difficulty making mortgage payments or have questions about purchasing or refinancing a home. Helpline staff can also provide legal advice to those who are in danger of losing their homes to foreclosure or who have been victimized by unlawful foreclosure rescue scams or predatory lending practices.

Helpline hours are Monday through Thursday from 9am to 1pm.
